I suck at New Years resolutions
In January of 2021, I started something called uiClub, a daily email with UI inspiration. From 11/30-12/31/2020, I built the brand, website, and Twitter and even got a 5-day headstart on the emails.
I made it a solid 30 consecutive posts (6wks) before I burnt out after staying up till 4am trying to write an email after a long day of work and late-night freelance. It wasn’t easy finding great, mind-blowing UI to share EVERY DAY. It took some digging and ended up costing me about 3hrs every night.
At the end of the day (because it was literally the end of the day), it wasn’t something I could really be passionate about. It wasn’t a creative outlet. It was the hustle, and I’m not about that… but that’s another conversation.
That said, I wanted to include many things that were on my heart and mind, but uiClub just wasn’t the best medium.
Ripping face about Senior Designers not being willing to mentor just never meshed well with, “WOW! Look at this super cool Dribbble shot!”
Kidding, I’m not here to rip face. I do want to encourage meaningful conversations, though.
So what is this about then?
Have you ever heard the term “well-rounded”? It sounds like it should mean “dull,” but it’s a term to describe someone who has a fully developed personality in all aspects. I want to be well-rounded, not only in my personality but also in my perspective. Meaning, I want to understand and empathize with more than just my perspective on issues discussed here. If you see something you disagree with, I’d love to understand your perspective and see if anyone else shares the same view. If you learn something here, then that’s great too!
I didn’t start all of this because I feel like I have some special knowledge that no one else has. It’s supposed to be a conversation starter and a bit of a personal journal. That’s really what a blog is supposed to be, in my opinion.
I hope for some to reach out and ask questions, constructively offer alternative ideas, or learn something along the way, whether from the articles or the conversations.
Tl;dr
The subtitle of this publication is “Creating space for my thoughts to spark conversations.” That is what I’m hoping to do by discussing topics based on my interests (Web3, product, and design).
Levi.txt is a space for growth, so you won’t see me tearing down other people or their ideas around here.
So I encourage you to add to the conversation by sharing your perspective and why it differs, or what you learned and how it impacted you.
If you’re using Substack, you are probably somewhat active on Twitter. So feel free to tag me in a discussion, DM a topic idea, or follow me at @levidjones.
